What does customs code Y081 mean?
Short answer: Y081 tells EU customs that the item has no standardised product identifier (no GTIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN). It is used only for the barcode field. The merchant code and the manufacturer code are still required.
Where Y081 fits
EU customs declarations for consumer parcels carry three product-identifier fields. In the Commission's guidance they are referenced by document codes: C127 for the merchant product identifier, C128 for the non-standardised manufacturer identifier and C129 for the standardised identifier. Y081 is the alternative to C129: it declares that no standardised identifier exists.

When you may use Y081
- Hand-made or one-off goods that were never assigned a barcode.
- Bulk goods repacked without a retail barcode.
- Items where the supplier confirms in writing that no GTIN exists.
When you may not
- The item has a barcode but you did not record it. A blank cell in your export is not proof of absence.
- You want to skip the manufacturer code. Y081 says nothing about C128.

Questions
Is Y081 the same as leaving the barcode blank?
No. A blank is unknown; Y081 is a positive statement that no standardised identifier exists. Only use it after you have confirmed that with the maker or supplier.
Do I still need the manufacturer's code if I use Y081?
Yes. Y081 only covers the standardised identifier. The merchant code (C127) and the manufacturer code (C128) remain required.
Does TITANTH Catalog Check add Y081 for me?
It shows Y081 in the review worksheet only for rows you have marked confirmed_none with an empty barcode. It never assumes absence from a blank cell.
