Understand the sample result
A “Review” finding can still be a real data gap.
The synthetic sample starts with legal scope unconfirmed. Blank codes are therefore shown as Review, not as a legal verdict in “Missing data.” Seeing zero Missing-data findings does not mean the sample catalog is complete. Confirm the scope for your own products before interpreting severity.
Which data questions does the checker flag?
- Rows with no SKU (your product code)
- Barcodes that are blank, not a valid GTIN/EAN/UPC, look like placeholders (e.g. N/A), or are reused on another product
- Shopify's multi-barcode Variant Barcodes column (called Barcodes in Shopify's help page; new in September 2026, e.g.
gtin:00012345678905; upc:012345678905; INTERNAL-123): the GTIN/EAN/UPC/ISBN entry is used as the standardised identifier; ASIN and internal codes are listed but not counted as one - Rows with no maker's / supplier's code — which is almost every row in a standard export
- Product-level values such as Vendor carried down to each variant so supplier questions are grouped correctly
What it does not do
It does not invent codes, contact suppliers, verify that a barcode belongs to your product, file a customs declaration, or certify compliance. It shows you where the data gaps are and what to do about each one.
Questions
Does my product data get uploaded?
No. The checker runs entirely inside your browser tab. Close the tab and nothing remains.
Which file do I use?
Shopify admin → Products → Export → CSV for Excel, Numbers or other spreadsheet programs. Use the standard export; you do not need to edit it.
Why are blank maker codes sometimes shown as Review?
The checker starts with legal scope unconfirmed. A blank code remains a question to resolve, but it is not labeled as a legal Missing-data finding until you select the applicable scope. Shopify's export has no column made for the maker's code; collect that value from suppliers when needed.
What does the paid version add?
The free checker can export supplier questions and correction worksheets for the first 25 rows. The paid version checks up to 10,000 rows from one store and runs offline from a file you keep. US$59 once.
